Finally Here

30 hours later....

Not that traveling has taken that long...but it has been that long since most of us slept. That is ok though...we are finally in Prague. Today has been a long day-lots of traveling and lots of time on a plane. We arrived this morning around 9:30 am and have been going strong all day. We spent most of the day touring the city with our great hosts and guides - thanks for spending the day with us. Our first stop in Prague is short, but we will back for most of our final week.

Some of the days highlights included...
(Trying to type this from memory...some of the details may be off...but feel free to look something up online if you are interested).

Vysehrad Castle
Vysehrad Castle is Prague's second castle and sits perched high above the Vltava River. Today we learned that it was probably built in the 10th ot 11th century and still has portions of the foundations of some of the first buildings in Prague. Think more "park" than castle - the grounds and views of the city are beautiful. Situated within the castle is the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul, as well as the Vyšehrad Cemetery, containing the remains of many famous people from the Czech history. The cemetary truely contains works of art to honor the deceased.

Wenceslas Square
One of the main city squares in town...some great history here.

Obecni Dum - The Municipal House
Beautiful building on the edge of new and old town Prague. Even better than the building...thebgreat lunch. We even had our first Slivovitz (plum brandy) and Becherovka (a liquore that has cinnamon and clove flavors).

We spent the rest of the afternoon touring the Old Town Square (went to see the famous astronomical clock) and some other ares of the city.

For now, I think everyone is very happy to be here, looking forward to a great month, and exhausted and ready for a good nights sleep. I think we are all looking forward to a shower as well.

Tomorrow morning we are off to Ostrava.

  1. Unbelievable! Just said goodbye to you this time yesterday.

Experience shows you will not get many comments here, but be assured your blog is being read widely throughout the district.

    Thanks for the photos today!
